Local artist Jess Hutchison launches range of calendars and sells out the first print run
23rd September 2020
Artist Jess Hutchison showcases her love of nature and animals in her colourful paintings. The NSW local recently launched her first range of calendars displaying her vibrant works.
Jess sold out the first 1,000 copies of her 2021 Colours of Australia calendar in under a week, and is excited to print more!
Proofs in person
In her search for a calendar printer, Jess found many online-only printing companies, however they offered very little in the way of personalised service or customisation, and most of them were offshore.
Jess, who prides herself on offering her customers quality, Australian-made products that show her art in its best light, knew she had to be more involved in the print process. “As an artist, I’m very particular. I need to see samples and proofs to check colours and make sure the print quality is how it should be, and actually be able to talk to someone,” said Jess.
Jess lives too far away to visit our factory so we sent her samples of digital and offset proofs of her calendar pages, and a variety of paper types so she could see her options in person. “Daniel sent the samples on the same day we spoke, and I had them in my hands by the next day!” shared Jess.
Jess chose to print with our full colour offset printing over digital printing, as it created a truer to colour display of her artwork. Jess was also able to choose from a range of ring binder options, and went for a thicker paper option to create a more durable product (something offshore, online printers never gave the artist the possibility of).

We then sent Jess her final proofs, giving her another chance to make sure her work looked exactly as she had in mind. “Daniel suggested some necessary design changes, making sure my art was the correct size and that nothing was cut off,” said Jess.
Supporting Australian businesses
Jess’s artwork celebrates the essence of Australian flora and fauna, so using an Australian-owned business was a conscious decision that made sense.
“As a small business myself, it’s so important for me to support local, family-run businesses. Especially right now.”
Alignment is everything for Jess, so she was keen to make sure her business practices reflected her passion for wildlife and care for the environment. “There is so much waste in an industry like printing, and not many printers talk about their eco-conscious practices,” said Jess. “It wouldn’t make sense for me to share my artwork highlighting the beautiful Australian environment, and then print my project with an offshore printer who doesn’t care about their environmental footprint.”

“Such a large order can be nerve-wracking, especially as a small business, but I had the best experience possible,” said Jess.
